West Java Police Form Special Team to Hunt Taufik Hidayat, Suspect in Three-Year Girlfriend Captivity
The West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) have formed a special team to hunt down Taufik Hidayat (30), the suspected perpetrator of the confinement and abuse of his close friend, YTR (29), over a period of approximately three years in Bandung. This was conveyed by West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan during a visit to YTR at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung on Tuesday (23/6). He stated that the special team comprises officers from the Directorate of Narcotics, Cyber, Special Crimes, and General Crimes. Investigators have also obtained data on the company where Taufik Hidayat previously worked as a debt collector. The company has been questioned to help locate the suspect. ‘I also inform you that we have issued a wanted list. Regarding this, we hope for assistance from the entire community, if anyone sees, knows, or meets him, to immediately cooperate with the West Java Police, specifically Polda Jabar, to inform us of his whereabouts,’ he said at the hospital. ‘Polda Jabar gives no room to perpetrators of violence like this. We will continue to search for his whereabouts and request support from the community. This must be uncovered and processed according to applicable law,’ continued the two-star general. Regarding YTR’s condition, Rudi revealed that the victim is undergoing medical treatment at RSHS after being freed from confinement in a rented room in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency. ‘The victim’s condition today is better, both physically and psychologically. Yesterday, wound cleaning and other procedures were carried out,’ he said. Inspector General Rudi and Polda Jabar investigators also communicated with the victim and her family. Currently, the victim’s recovery is a priority alongside the investigation process. ‘We saw and met with both of her parents earlier, observed her physical condition, and received a progress report from the hospital,’ he added. ‘Because we see the spectrum of this case is quite broad, there are many allegations that they are involved in various other criminal acts. We are focusing first on helping the victim.’ On that occasion, Rudi stated that doctors have identified damage to several of the victim’s organs. The results of this identification will strengthen the investigation into the case. ‘Forensic doctors have been able to identify damaged and non-functioning organs. Among them are the eyes, then the lips, there are slash marks on the legs from a sharp object, then cigarette burn marks and so on. Of course, this becomes evidence of what has happened or what was done by the suspect,’ he explained. Previously, a woman was reported missing by her family more than three years ago and is believed to have been held captive by her boyfriend in a rented room in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency, during which time she was allegedly tortured.
