West Java Police Examine 31 Witnesses in Bandung Woman's Confinement Case

West Java Regional Police have examined 31 witnesses to strengthen the evidence in the alleged confinement and assault case against a woman with the initials YTR, reportedly perpetrated by suspect Taufik Hidayat. Head of Public Relations for the West Java Police, Senior Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, stated that the investigation is ongoing, and the case file has therefore not yet been transferred to the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office. “Thirty-one witnesses is a significant number. We are still conducting the investigation and taking their statements,” Hendra said in Bandung on Tuesday. He added that the case file has not yet reached the first stage of submission to the prosecution because the investigation process is still underway. “Not yet, there is no news regarding Taufik Hidayat’s legal process or the stage one file being handed over to the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office,” he said. Meanwhile, the Director of General Crime Investigation for the West Java Police, Senior Commissioner Rumi Untari, revealed that investigators had conducted a reconstruction, re-enacting 21 scenes across three main locations where the confinement and abuse took place. She explained that the three locations were chosen as they were central to the criminal acts experienced by the victim. According to preliminary investigation results, the suspect admitted to his actions, assaulting the victim with his bare hands as well as various objects, including a helmet, an iron table leg, and a sharp weapon in the form of a machete. The West Java Police previously named Taufik Hidayat as a suspect in the confinement and abuse of YTR, which allegedly lasted for approximately three years at a boarding house in the Cileunyi area of Bandung Regency. As a result of the incident, the victim suffered multiple severe injuries impacting her physical condition, including impaired vision, difficulty speaking, and an inability to walk normally.
