West Java Police Confirm Taufik Hidayat Was Arrested, Not Surrendered
West Java Police have confirmed that Taufik Hidayat (30), a suspect in the abuse and confinement of a woman with the initials YTR, was arrested and did not surrender himself. Head of Public Relations for West Java Police, Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, explained that officers apprehended Taufik at a relative’s residence in the Griya Pesona Complex, Ciparay District. “Yes, he did not surrender; he was arrested in the Greater Bandung area,” Hendra said, as reported by detikJabar on Wednesday (24/6/2026). The police statement responds to claims by Dadang Ahyar Ismail (53), the suspect’s former superior, who said Taufik had surrendered through an intermediary. Hendra stated that the police will further investigate this account. “Yes, that witness will be examined. A visual examination has been conducted, but there will be follow-up actions,” Hendra explained. Previously, Dadang recounted that Taufik repeatedly contacted him via WhatsApp using different numbers. In these communications, Taufik expressed feeling pressured because the case had gone viral on social media and had asked for protection. “So that’s it. If you keep running, with luck you might run until you’re an old man, but you’ll be exhausted. That’s what I told him,” Dadang told reporters. Dadang warned the suspect that hiding amid public scrutiny was very risky and gave him a logical choice: surrender peacefully or face the risk of forced capture by residents or the authorities.
