West Java Police Confirm Taufik Hidayat Still at Large, Arrest Video is Hoax
Bandung – The West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) have confirmed that Taufik Hidayat (TH), the suspect in the sadistic abuse and confinement of a woman, is still at large and has not been arrested. The confirmation came in response to a video circulating on social media claiming that the perpetrator had been apprehended by law enforcement. Police have verified that the information is false, or a hoax.
Head of Public Relations for the West Java Police, Senior Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, stated that the video in circulation is unrelated to the arrest process of the suspect in the case, which has drawn significant public attention. “It’s a hoax,” Hendra told reporters on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.
According to Hendra, the police are continuing their pursuit of Taufik Hidayat, who has been officially placed on the Wanted Persons List (DPO). He stressed that it would be impossible for the police to issue a DPO notice if the suspect had already been successfully detained. “If he had been caught, we wouldn’t have issued the DPO sprint,” he said.
Director of General Criminal Investigation: Suspect Still Being Hunted by Mobile Brigade and Joint Teams
The West Java Police have confirmed that the manhunt for the suspect is ongoing. The Director of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the West Java Police, Senior Commissioner Gede Adhi, along with the Mobile Investigation Brigade (Resmob) team and joint elements from various directorates, is continuing the search for Taufik Hidayat’s whereabouts. These efforts aim to expedite the suspect’s arrest and uncover his possible involvement in other criminal acts. The police have also urged the public not to easily trust unverified information, including videos circulating on social media regarding the alleged arrest of the perpetrator.
West Java Police Chief: TH Has Officially Been Named a Suspect
West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan confirmed that Taufik Hidayat’s legal status has been upgraded to suspect in the case of confinement and abuse against the victim. According to Rudi, the suspect designation was made based on the results of the investigation and evidence collected by investigators. “Previously, I can convey on this occasion that a few days ago, suspect TH was designated by us as a suspect for abuse under Article 466 of the new Criminal Code of 2023, along with confinement. We have named the individual with the initials TH as a suspect,” said Rudi after visiting the victim at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung on Tuesday.
