West Java Police Chief Says Perpetrator of Confinement and Abuse in Bandung Fled to Tangerang
West Java Police Chief, Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, has detailed the chronology of the escape and eventual arrest of Taufik Hidayat, the suspect in the case of confinement and severe abuse against a woman with the initials YTR, 29, in Bandung Regency. In a statement in Bandung on Tuesday (23/6), Inspector General Rudi Setiawan revealed that the suspect had attempted to cover his tracks by fleeing outside the West Java region. Based on the suspect’s confession, the Tangerang area in Banten was his intended hiding place. “His escape story was recounted earlier; the individual had moved to Tangerang. He felt that Tangerang was a safe place, but there he was also confused and felt unsafe, so he returned to West Java,” said the West Java Police Chief. The suspect’s return to West Java, specifically to a relative’s home in the Majalaya area of Bandung Regency, became a turning point for the police. The Police Chief explained that the investigative team managed to track Taufik’s whereabouts through his digital activity. “This morning, the individual made several transactions. This became a clue for us. Therefore, the teams assigned to Majalaya remained there, searching around the housing area, and finally from afternoon until evening they were able to meet and arrest the individual,” Rudi explained. Furthermore, Inspector General Rudi Setiawan confirmed that the suspect has admitted to all his actions against the victim YTR. Although the suspect expressed regret, the police are continuing to investigate the specific motive and the series of violent acts committed during the confinement period. “He admits to everything he did. He also stated he regrets it and admits his actions were carried out under the influence of alcohol,” concluded the West Java Police Chief. Currently, West Java Police investigators are still conducting intensive examinations to complete the case file to hold the suspect accountable before the law.
