West Java Police Chief: Homeward-bound traffic on arterial routes rises 10 percent, traffic flows smoothly
Bandung — The Head of the West Java Regional Police, Irjen Pol Rudi Setiawan, stated that vehicle traffic on arterial routes in West Java is experiencing approximately a 10 percent increase ahead of the peak homeward-bound migration (mudik) period for Eid 2026.
Despite the increase, traffic conditions on several main routes towards East Priangan remain smooth, according to monitoring reports.
“Today we are focusing on arterial routes from Karawang towards the East Priangan region. Alhamdulillah, there is an increase of approximately 10 percent, but traffic remains quite smooth,” Rudi said whilst inspecting the Integrated Dermaga Sunda Post in Nagrek, Bandung Regency, on Sunday.
According to him, one approach being implemented to ease congestion on arterial routes is traffic management through a partial one-way system applied situationally.
“The management approach we are using on these arterial routes is a partial one-way system, implemented in coordination with the Traffic Directorate. When queues begin to lengthen, this traffic engineering measure is applied to ease the flow of vehicles,” he said.
“Earlier, it was reported that approximately 9 to 10 minutes after the partial one-way system was applied, traffic flowed smoothly again,” he added.
Rudi estimated that the peak homeward-bound traffic flow in West Java will likely occur on 19 to 20 March 2026.
“We have prepared all levels of our organisation to manage the anticipated increase in traffic so that the holiday journey can proceed smoothly and safely,” he said.
“We want this homeward-bound migration to be smooth, the journey safe, and families happy,” Rudi concluded.
