West Java Police Chief: 2026 Homecoming Traffic in West Java Monitored as Busy but Smooth and Under Control
West Java Police Chief Irjen Pol. Dr. Rudi Setiawan monitored the Integrated Post for Operation Ketupat Lodaya 2026 at Rest Area KM 57 on Thursday afternoon (19/3). The Police Chief stated that despite an increase in vehicle volume, particularly on the crucial Karawang route up to kilometre 70, the situation remains under control.
“There is indeed an increase in vehicle volume at certain times, such as 07:00–08:00 WIB and 21:00–00:00 WIB, with fluctuations of around 3,000 to 4,000 vehicles. However, the situation is still under control, so no traffic engineering such as contraflow or one-way is required yet,” said the Police Chief.
Further, he mentioned that a significant surge in vehicle traffic began on 17 and 18 March 2026, where the volume of vehicles from Jakarta towards Karawang and West Java areas increased to around 8,000 vehicles per hour.
In response, police personnel have taken quick and measured anticipatory steps, including implementing a contraflow system up to three lanes since early morning on 16 March, and applying a national one-way system, which in the field has started since 17 March to ease congestion from Bekasi towards Karawang.
“As of the latest monitoring at 17:36 WIB, traffic flow in West Java is still in the busy but smooth category, and in safe and controlled conditions,” he continued.
Additionally, West Java Police ensure that during the homecoming flow up to now, there have been no fatal traffic accidents resulting in fatalities, indicating the optimal synergy and coordination in integrated security.
West Java Police urge all the public undertaking homecoming journeys to continue obeying traffic rules, maintaining physical condition, and utilising rest areas and service posts provided for collective safety. (H-2)
