West Java Police arrest suspect in three-year confinement and abuse of woman in Bandung
Bandung (ANTARA) - The West Java Regional Police have arrested Taufik Hidayat (TH), the suspected perpetrator in the confinement and abuse of a woman with the initials YTR (29) in Bandung Regency, which allegedly lasted for three years. “Yes, that’s correct (he has been arrested),” said West Java Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, when contacted in Bandung on Tuesday. Hendra stated that Taufik was arrested by West Java Police personnel in the Greater Bandung area. However, he did not yet provide details on the exact location or time of the arrest. The case came to light after the victim’s family received a message via WhatsApp from an unknown person, informing them that the victim was in the Emergency Department of Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung. “After that, the victim’s family went to RSHS and discovered that the victim had suffered severe injuries to the head, face, and legs, as well as minor injuries to the hands,” he said. According to Hendra, before being found at the hospital, the victim’s whereabouts had been unknown to her family for approximately three years. During that period, the victim is believed to have endured repeated abuse by the perpetrator using his hands, blunt objects, and sharp weapons. “It is suspected that during that time span, the victim received abusive treatment from the reported individual using hands, blunt objects, sharp weapons, and also lost a number of her valuable belongings,” he stated. As a result of the alleged abuse, the victim sustained multiple severe injuries, including impaired vision leading to blindness in both eyes, a cleft lip, difficulty speaking, an inability to walk normally, and the loss of several valuable items.
