Bandung (ANTARA) - The West Java Regional Police have arrested 593 suspects in drug abuse cases following the uncovering of 474 police reports from April to early May 2026.
The Director of Narcotics Criminal Investigation at the West Java Police, Senior Commissioner Albert Raden Deddy Sulistyo Nugroho, explained that among the 593 arrested suspects, one belongs to the cluster of producers of synthetic tobacco-type drugs, 458 are distributors, and the other 134 are users.
“If there are producers, and then distributors, automatically we break their distribution chain,” said Albert in Bandung on Wednesday.
According to him, the circulation of methamphetamine originates from the international Golden Triangle network, which comes from Laos.
“This is an international network because the goods come or are shipped from Laos. Laos is part of the Golden Triangle network,” he said.
He mentioned that in the uncovering, the police secured five suspects with evidence of nearly six kilograms of methamphetamine sent directly from Laos to Bandung.
“This doesn’t go through anywhere, so from Laos directly sent to Bandung at the destination address,” he stated.
Albert emphasised that his side continues to apply restorative justice to drug users who are using for the first time and no evidence is found at the time of arrest.
“We remain committed to eradicating drugs. There is not a single inch of land in the land of Pasundan that gives room for manoeuvre to drug lords,” he said.
He emphasised that producers and distributors are charged with several articles in the Criminal Code and the Narcotics Law with a maximum penalty of the death sentence or life imprisonment as well as a minimum fine of Rp2 billion.
