West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) have spoken out regarding its officers involved in an altercation with a security guard, after their vehicle ran a red light at a pelican crossing in front of the Pullman Hotel, Central Jakarta.

Head of Public Relations at Polda Jabar, Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, offered an apology to the security guard at Bundaran HI for the arrogant and improper behaviour displayed by three Polda Jabar officers.

“We offer our apology to Mr Fictor, a security guard in the Bundaran HI area, for the improper actions committed by three members of the West Java Regional Police,” Hendra said on Saturday (25/7).

Hendra said that although the parties had reached an amicable settlement, the three officers would be subject to ethics sanctions. The three Polda Jabar officers carry the initials Ipda DG, Bripka BS and Briptu RPW.

“The findings show sufficient evidence of an alleged violation of the Indonesian National Police Professional Ethics Code, as regulated under Police Regulation Number 7 of 2022. The next step will be carried out through the mechanism of the National Police Professional Ethics Commission hearing,” he said.

Hendra assured that West Java Regional Police reaffirmed its commitment to act firmly, professionally and transparently against any violations committed by its members, and expressed appreciation for all criticism and input from the public as part of efforts to improve and enhance services.

Previously, a video circulated on social media showing a Toyota Alphard running a red light at a pelican crossing in front of the Pullman Hotel, Central Jakarta, which escalated into an altercation with a security guard.

In the video posted by the Instagram account @jakpus24jam.id, several pedestrians can be seen crossing at the pelican crossing after the traffic light turned red for vehicles. However, an Alphard continued to drive through and ran the red light.

A security guard who was also crossing then reprimanded the Alphard driver. However, the driver was reportedly displeased with the reprimand.

“The security guard then reprimanded the driver by banging on the car window. The driver was unhappy with the security guard’s actions and a verbal altercation ensued,” said Braiel.

According to Braiel, the two parties then went to the police post to seek assistance in resolving the matter through mediation. Subsequently, both parties agreed to make peace.

“The matter was resolved amicably through mediation assisted by the Post Commander at the Thamrin Police Post. After it was settled, the driver continued his journey and the security guard returned to work,” he said.
