West Java Police Apologise After Officers in Alphard Force Way Through Pedestrian Crossing in Jakarta

The West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) has spoken out regarding its members who were involved in a dispute with a security guard, after their vehicle forced its way through a traffic light at a pelican crossing in front of the Pullman Hotel, Central Jakarta. Head of Public Relations for the West Java Police, Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, conveyed an apology to the security guard, named Fictor, for the arrogant and inappropriate behaviour of the three officers. ‘We apologise to Mr Fictor, a security guard in the Bundaran HI area, for the inappropriate actions of three members of the West Java Regional Police,’ Hendra said on Saturday. He stated that although a peaceful agreement was reached, the three officers, identified by their initials as Ipda DG, Bripka BS, and Briptu RPW, will face sanctions under the professional code of ethics. ‘The results found sufficient evidence of a violation of the Indonesian National Police Professional Code of Ethics as stipulated in Police Regulation Number 7 of 2022. The process will be carried out through a Police Professional Code of Ethics Commission hearing,’ he said. Hendra affirmed the West Java Police’s commitment to taking firm and transparent action against any violations by its members. The incident stemmed from a video circulating on social media showing a Toyota Alphard forcing its way through a red light at a pedestrian crossing. A security guard who was crossing the road reprimanded the driver, leading to a verbal altercation with the vehicle’s occupants. Both parties later went to a police post for mediation and agreed to settle the matter amicably.
