West Java Man Arrested for Recording Woman in Ngurah Rai Airport Toilet and Threatening to Distribute Video
A man identified as DS (48) from West Java was arrested by police on suspicion of secretly recording a woman in the women’s toilet of the Basement A3 car park, Terminal Internasional Bandara I Gusti Ngurah Rai (Bali’s International Airport). The perpetrator subsequently used the recording to threaten the victim.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, 18 February 2026 at approximately 23:00 Wita (local time). The victim, identified as NLPLW (22), reported the incident after receiving threats from the perpetrator via WhatsApp messages. The perpetrator sent photographs and sexually explicit video footage that had been covertly recorded whilst the victim was in the airport toilet.
“The perpetrator allegedly recorded the victim whilst she was inside the toilet and then used the recording to threaten the victim into complying with his demands. This action constitutes electronically-facilitated sexual violence that has caused significant harm to the victim, both psychologically and socially,” stated Ipda I Gede Suka Artana, Head of Public Relations at Ngurah Rai Airport Police District, on Monday (9/3/2026).
DS recorded the victim through a gap in the toilet door using his mobile telephone. After obtaining the recording, the perpetrator contacted the victim and threatened to distribute the content unless she complied with his requests.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Following investigative work and crime scene examination, the operational team from the Criminal Investigation Division of Ngurah Rai Airport Police District obtained information indicating that the perpetrator was in the Bekasi area of West Java.
AKP R Ritonga, head of the Criminal Investigation Division, then instructed the team to pursue the suspect. Police successfully apprehended DS in Bekasi on Wednesday, 25 February 2026.
During the arrest, police secured several pieces of evidence belonging to the perpetrator. The confiscated evidence included a mobile telephone, a black belt, and photographs and sexually explicit video footage of the victim that had been stored on the perpetrator’s device.
Based on interrogation results, the perpetrator admitted to his actions. He acknowledged having excessive interest in the victim and claimed to feel hurt because the victim had not responded to his advances.
As a result of the incident, the victim suffered psychological trauma including excessive anxiety, fear, and disruption to her daily activities.
The perpetrator has been charged under Article 14, subsections (1) and (2) of Law No. 12 of 2022 concerning Sexual Violence Offences, which carries a potential sentence of up to 12 years imprisonment and/or a fine of up to 300 million rupiah.
“The perpetrator is currently being held in custody at Ngurah Rai Airport Police District Detention Centre for the purposes of the investigation process,” he explained.
