West Java Legislator Urges Schools to Showcase Arts and Culture During Orientation

Garut (ANTARA) - Aten Munajat, a member of Commission V of the West Java DPRD, is encouraging all levels of schooling to present educational arts and cultural performances during the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) to strengthen the national identity of the local youth.

“Through arts and cultural activities, students, particularly Generation Z, can become more familiar with and develop a love for the local wisdom of their region,” he stated in Garut on Monday.

He noted that Commission V of the West Java DPRD, which oversees cultural affairs, is continuously working to closely monitor government programmes regarding arts and culture, including within the educational environment.

Currently, the commission is paying special attention to schools that are about to organise MPLS, ensuring that these programmes showcase not only educational curricula but also artistic and cultural performances.

“We are encouraging every school to present educational arts and cultural performances that actively involve students and highlight traditional arts and regional culture,” said Aten.

This effort, he added, is intended to strengthen the nation’s children, making them better prepared to face modern challenges amidst the rapid currents of globalisation and technological advancement.

“Amidst the heavy flow of globalisation and technological development, the strengthening of local culture serves as a fortress to ensure the younger generation does not lose their identity,” he said.

He expressed hope that various activities within the school environment, particularly arts and cultural performances during MPLS, could shape the character of students to be culturally aware and more devoted to Indonesia’s diverse society.

“In this way, schools will not only produce academically intelligent generations but also those who are characterised by culture and possess a deep love for Indonesia,” he concluded.
