West Java Legislator Urges Schools to Showcase Arts and Culture During Orientation

Garut (ANTARA) - West Java House of Representatives (DPRD) Commission V member Aten Munajat is encouraging all school levels to feature educational arts and cultural performances during the school environment orientation period (MPLS) to strengthen the nation’s identity among the local younger generation. “Through arts and cultural activities, students, especially Generation Z, can become more familiar with and love the local wisdom in their regions,” he said in Garut on Monday. He stated that Commission V of the West Java DPRD, which oversees cultural affairs, continues to pay close attention to government programmes related to arts and culture, including within the educational environment. Currently, the commission is giving special attention to schools that will soon hold MPLS, ensuring they not only present educational programmes but also arts and cultural performances. “We encourage every school to present educational arts and cultural performances, actively involve students, and highlight traditional arts and regional culture,” Aten said. This effort, he noted, is to strengthen the nation’s children so they are better prepared to face the challenges of the times amidst the strong currents of globalisation and technological development. “Amidst the strong currents of globalisation and technological development, strengthening local culture serves as a fortress so that the younger generation does not lose its identity,” he said. He expressed hope that various school activities, especially arts and cultural performances during MPLS, can shape students’ character to be cultured and to love Indonesia with its diverse society even more. “In this way, schools will not only produce a generation that is academically intelligent but also one that has character, is cultured, and has a love for Indonesia,” he said.
