West Java Legislator Ensures Government Assistance for KM Virgo Victims from Garut

Garut (ANTARA) - Aten Munajat, a member of Commission V of the West Java Provincial DPRD, has ensured that the Garut Regency Government is ready to provide handling assistance, including the repatriation of victims from the KM Virgo Transport 8 accident incident originating from the regency.

“We have confirmed that the Garut Regency Social Services are ready to assist the victims, including helping with their return home,” said Aten after meeting with the victims’ families in Kampung Panyingkiran, Situsaeur Village, Karangpawitan District, on Monday.

The West Java representative for the Garut Regency constituency received information regarding residents from Garut who were victims of the KM Virgo incident during its journey from Surabaya to Kalimantan in the early hours of Sunday (13/9).

“We have certainly come to the families to provide strength and to inform them that the government is not remaining idle; even the Regent of Garut himself has visited the residents,” he said.

He noted that the families are currently awaiting news regarding family members who are still being searched for by the joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team.

All survivors, he stated, have already received medical treatment for their recovery and will subsequently be assisted in their return to Garut.

“At this moment, the victims are being documented and identified,” he added.

The Regent of Garut, Abdusy Syakur Amin, visited the families of the victims of the sinking of the Virgo Ship to provide moral support and to ensure that the data and identification needs of the families from Garut are handled promptly.

The Regent emphasised the Garut Regency Government’s commitment to accompanying the victims’ families, including making efforts to repatriate both survivors and deceased victims to Garut Regency.

The Regent stated that the Garut Regency Government will coordinate with the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) and relevant agencies at the incident site to facilitate the evacuation and repatriation process.

“We will strive to do our utmost, ensuring coordination with Basarnas at the location,” he said.

Based on preliminary data collected by the Garut Regency Government, a total of 23 people from Garut are involved; 11 individuals have been declared survivors, two have been confirmed deceased, while the remaining victims are still in the process of being searched for.
