West Java Launches 'Jabar Berseka' Movement to Make Waste Sorting a Cultural Norm

Thousands of participants filled the SOR Arcamanik area in Bandung to launch a movement to protect the environment through a culture of sorting waste from home. After taking part in the Jabar Berseka Alert Rally and the joint declaration of the Waste Sorting from Home Action, the participants immediately set about cleaning the surrounding area as a symbol of the start of a sustainable waste management movement. The event involved 4,200 participants comprising students, TNI soldiers, volunteers and sanitation workers.

Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan (left) and West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi (right) delivered remarks during the Jabar Berseka Alert Rally and the joint declaration of the Waste Sorting from Home Action at SOR Arcamanik, Bandung, on Friday (24/7/2026).

The Jabar Berseka movement invites the public to make a habit of sorting waste from home in order to reduce the volume of rubbish ending up at final disposal sites (TPA).

The West Java Provincial Government is encouraging involvement from all elements of society, from schoolchildren to community groups, in building responsible waste management habits.

Clean-up and waste-sorting activities are the first step towards building a sustainable environmental culture while raising public awareness of the importance of maintaining cleanliness starting from the family environment.
