BANDUNG — Informal workers in West Java can now register for employment social security protection through the Asuransi Aing programme. Registration is available through the Asuransi Aing feature on the Sapawarga app or by contacting the Jabar standby service on 082126030038.

The West Java Provincial Government will cover BPJS Employment contributions for 5.4 million informal workers from 2027. The contribution paid by the regional government is set at Rp 16,800 per worker per month.

According to West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, known as KDM, recipients of Asuransi Aing will receive five main benefits. First, participants will be entitled to unlimited-cost treatment for work-related injuries at class I government hospitals or equivalent private hospitals.

“For 12 months, workers will receive compensation equal to 100 per cent of their wages while they are unable to work; from the 13th month until treatment is complete, they will receive 50 per cent of their wages,” Dedi said recently.

Second, if a work-related accident results in permanent total disability, the worker will receive Rp 56 million in compensation from the scheme provider. The amount is subject to the applicable regulations.

Third, if a worker dies as a result of a work-related accident, their heirs will receive Rp 70 million. This comprises Rp 48 million in death compensation, Rp 12 million in periodic payments over 24 months and Rp 10 million for funeral costs.

Fourth, if a worker dies for reasons unrelated to a work accident, their heirs remain eligible for Rp 42 million. This consists of Rp 10 million for funeral costs, Rp 20 million in death compensation and Rp 12 million in periodic compensation over 24 months, paid as a lump sum. Eligibility requires at least three months of BPJS Employment membership.

Fifth, Asuransi Aing provides education scholarships for two of a participant’s children. If a worker dies or suffers permanent total disability due to a work-related accident, the two children may receive scholarships with a total value of up to Rp 174 million.

The education benefit also applies if a worker dies for reasons unrelated to a work accident, provided they have made BPJS Employment contributions for at least three years. The policy is intended to help secure the children’s future.

Deny Yusyulian, head of the BPJS Employment regional office in West Java, said the agency strongly welcomed the provincial government’s initiative to expand employment social security protection for informal workers. He described the programme as strategically important for the wider community.

Deny said the programme was an important step towards ensuring workers across different sectors were protected against occupational risks that could occur at any time. It also meant workers could feel the state’s presence directly.

“Informal workers face the same risks in carrying out their work. Through Asuransi Aing, we hope more people will gain access to employment social security protection without having to bear the contributions themselves. This is a tangible example of the government protecting workers and their families,” Deny said.

He added that the five main benefits showed that employment social security provides not only financial support for workers but also a safety net for their families in the event of a work accident or death.

“This protection is important because the consequences of occupational risks are felt not only by workers but also by their families,” Deny said.

With work-accident and death benefits in place, workers can go about their daily activities with greater peace of mind, while their families have protection if an unexpected event occurs.

To claim benefits, workers or their heirs must submit the required documents to BPJS Employment. These include a national identity card, a death certificate where applicable, a family card and the bank account number of the beneficiary.

The benefits have already helped Jajang, a resident of Bayongbong, Garut Regency. After his father, a farmer, died in 2025, Jajang received the full compensation from the scheme provider.

Jajang expressed his gratitude and thanked the West Java Provincial Government for the assistance provided to his family. He said the programme had eased the burden on those left behind.

“I hope the governor’s programme continues. If you have not yet registered with BPJS Employment, please sign up soon,” Jajang said.
