West Java Infrastructure Acceleration Requires Synergy and Support from Central and Regional Governments

Member of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) from the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction, Sudjatmiko, has emphasised that accelerating infrastructure development in West Java Province requires a joint commitment between the central government, provincial government, and district/city governments. This is to ensure various strategic projects can be completed on time and provide tangible benefits to the community. According to Sudjatmiko, West Java, as the province with the largest population in Indonesia, needs more integrated infrastructure development to support economic growth, improve inter-regional connectivity, and strengthen resilience against hydrometeorological disasters. He stated that infrastructure development in West Java must not be carried out partially and that all stakeholders must move together, with synergy being the key to realising strategic projects on schedule. One of the main challenges highlighted is the slow completion of land acquisition, which can delay construction and hinder state budget absorption despite central government programmes and funding being ready. He cited the example of a flyover project in Bekasi City, which is technically prepared but still requires accelerated land clearance. Sudjatmiko also stressed that flood management must be handled comprehensively through water resource infrastructure, spatial planning, control of land conversion, river normalisation, and the provision of decent housing for communities in flood-prone areas. He urged the West Java Provincial Government and all district/city governments to prepare programme proposals that meet readiness criteria to secure central government funding through various schemes, including Presidential Instructions. Sudjatmiko affirmed Commission V’s commitment to overseeing West Java’s infrastructure needs through legislation, supervision, and budgeting functions to ensure projects are realised effectively, transparently, and have a direct impact on improving public welfare.
