West Java Inflation at 0.23 Per Cent Driven by Bird's Eye Chilli and Rice
The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for West Java Province recorded inflation in West Java for September 2026 at a monthly level (month-to-month/mtm) of 0.23 per cent, primarily driven by bird’s eye chilli and rice commodities.
The Head of BPS West Java Province, Margaretha Ari Anggorowati, in Bandung on Thursday, revealed that the impact of a prolonged dry season, which triggered anthracnose pest attacks and drought in production centres, resulted in limited supplies of bird’s eye chilli and rice, thereby driving inflation.
“The prolonged dry season has impacted the supply of bird’s eye chilli and rice. On the other hand, increased market demand has also contributed to the price rise of broiler chicken and chicken eggs,” said Ari.
BPS noted that the Food, Beverage, and Tobacco group was the main driver of monthly inflation, contributing 0.16 per cent. However, Ari stated that there were other cost aspects impacting inflation.
Acumulatively, the year-to-date (ytd) inflation for West Java reached 2.10 per cent, while the annual inflation (year-on-year/yoy) stood at 3.16 per cent.
Margaretha detailed that the main commodities contributing to monthly inflation included bird’s eye chilli (0.05 per cent), broiler chicken (0.05 per cent), chicken eggs (0.05 per cent), gold jewellery (0.03 per cent), and petrol (0.02 per cent).
Spatially, Bandung Regency and Tasikmalaya City experienced the highest monthly inflationary pressures at 0.39 per cent and 0.37 per cent respectively, while Subang Regency recorded the lowest inflation at 0.03 per cent.
