The West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Human Rights is overseeing the fulfilment of rights for a woman with the initials YNT, a victim of alleged violence and confinement, who is currently undergoing treatment at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung. This oversight includes ensuring the victim obtains access to healthcare services, assistance, and a proper recovery process, including coordination with various relevant parties to meet the victim’s administrative and protection needs during the treatment period. Head of the West Java Ministry of Human Rights Regional Office, Hasbullah Fudail, stated that the state must be present to ensure victims of violence receive proper protection and services. “We will continue to oversee the handling of this case so that the victim’s rights are fulfilled and she receives protection as she should. This is part of the state’s commitment to guaranteeing respect, protection, and fulfilment of human rights,” Hasbullah said. According to him, the victim is experiencing a serious medical condition requiring intensive treatment. The victim’s right eye suffered a severe infection, necessitating surgical removal, and the infection has also spread to the head. “The victim sustained severe injuries to several parts of her body. Her right eye was so badly infected it had to be operated on and removed. The infection has also spread to the head and requires intensive medical action,” he stated. Additionally, the victim suffered lacerations to the mouth, lost two upper teeth and one lower tooth, and numerous scars and cigarette burns were found on her body, indicating suspected long-term violence. Hasbullah said the victim’s recovery process is also facing administrative obstacles because her identity documents are still held by the suspected perpetrator. This situation means that treatment financing cannot yet fully utilise health insurance facilities. To address this, the West Java Ministry of Human Rights Regional Office is coordinating with various parties, including the Regional Technical Implementation Unit under the West Java DP3AKB, to seek treatment funding through the Witness and Victim Protection Agency. Beyond overseeing the fulfilment of the victim’s rights, the West Java Ministry of Human Rights is also pushing for legal proceedings in accordance with applicable regulations and urging the public to increase vigilance against potential violence in their surroundings. “The case affecting YNT serves as a reminder that domestic violence and violence in personal relationships must not be considered merely a private matter. The role of family, the community, property owners, and the government is crucial in detecting and preventing violence early to protect the safety and dignity of every citizen,” Hasbullah said.
