West Java High Prosecutor's Office Receives Case File on Woman's Confinement in Bandung

The West Java High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati Jabar) has received the first-stage case file for suspect Taufik Hidayat in the case of alleged severe abuse and confinement of a woman with the initials YTR in Bandung, for review by prosecutors. Nur Sricahyawijaya, Head of Legal Information at the West Java High Prosecutor’s Office, stated that the file was submitted by investigators from the West Java Regional Police’s Directorate for the Protection of Women and Children and the Eradication of Human Trafficking. “Colleagues from the West Java Police investigators have sent the first-stage case file on behalf of suspect TH, with this file being sent in triplicate,” Cahya said in Bandung on Wednesday. She explained that the review process is carried out to ensure all elements of the alleged criminal offence have been fulfilled in accordance with applicable legal provisions. Within three days, the reviewing prosecutor will convey their stance on the results of the case file review, whether it is declared complete or still requires improvement from investigators. “If it is not yet complete, the reviewing prosecutor will issue a notification that the investigation is incomplete and request the West Java Police investigators to complete it,” she said. In addition to articles in the Criminal Code (KUHP), the suspect is also charged with violating provisions on sexual violence, which carry a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison. She added that the possibility of additional charges remains open and will depend on the results of the case file review conducted by the prosecutor. “If in the case file there is a possibility or facts that are revealed, it will certainly be requested from the investigators to add them,” Cahya said.
