West Java Governor Targets Street Dwellers and Social Order After Clearing Illegal Buildings

After clearing a number of illegal buildings along main roads, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi is now targeting individuals with social welfare issues found on the streets. “We will bring order to them. This is part of the commitment of the West Java Provincial Government, together with district and city governments, to create a region that is clean, neat, beautiful, and more orderly,” Dedi stated on Wednesday (22/7). The provincial government has already taken initial steps by gathering all heads of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) from districts and cities across West Java to strengthen coordination in handling various social problems. The next step is accelerating the handling of people with mental health disorders (ODGJ). Dedi requested that every ODGJ found be immediately referred to the Cisarua Mental Hospital in West Bandung Regency to receive proper medical treatment. “We do not want to see any ODGJ in West Java not receiving treatment,” he explained. Furthermore, beggars found in public spaces will be immediately directed to the West Java Provincial Social Service for guidance. Subsequently, a more sustainable solution will be sought so they do not return to begging on the streets. Similar action will also be taken against ‘silver men’ operating on the roads. They will be taken to the Social Service to receive assistance according to their needs. The next target is the presence of buskers. The governor stated that buskers who lack adequate musical or singing skills should receive guidance through the Social Service. However, buskers with artistic quality will be exempted. Dedi invited all members of the public to play an active role in maintaining their respective environments and supporting the government’s efforts to create a safe and comfortable West Java. “Free West Java from street crime, free West Java from slums, and free West Java from chaos,” he concluded.
