West Java Governor Promises Rp10 Million Capital and Jobs for Displaced Puncak Traders
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has confirmed that a compensation scheme is being prepared for traders affected by the enforcement operation at the Seger Alam Rest Area in Puncak Pass, Cipanas, Cianjur Regency. The scheme includes business capital assistance of up to Rp10 million and new job opportunities in the formal and sanitation sectors. As an initial step, the West Java Provincial Government is distributing business capital assistance and daily living expenses so that traders can immediately restart their economic activities following the clearance. “For the first stage today, we are simply completing the provision of compensation for their living costs and for new business capital,” Dedi stated at Gedung Pakuan, Bandung, on Thursday. The former Purwakarta Regent assessed that the capital stimulus provided is quite sufficient to start a new business from scratch, provided it is managed properly. “So, if we talk about Rp10 million, it is small. For those who are savvy in business, it can grow into something big,” said Dedi, who is familiarly known as KDM. Furthermore, the West Java Provincial Government is designing long-term solutions so that the affected residents can secure a steady income. One concrete option being offered is employment in the street cleaning sector, considering the high demand for this work on various strategic roads. “We clearly need street cleaning workers. Because they are needed on the roads, and later those who are willing can become street cleaning workers,” he explained. To ensure the programme’s effectiveness, the provincial government will conduct periodic mapping of the traders’ conditions and profiles to match them with available job vacancies. Specifically for traders or their family members who are of productive age under 30, Dedi mentioned that a career pathway into the manufacturing industry has been prepared through intensive training programmes. “There will also be many job opportunities that we can train them for. We will direct them; if they are under 30, the garment sector is still open. We can train them for that,” Dedi said.
