West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has announced a bounty for members of the public who manage to disable criminals, such as muggers, with a cash prize of up to Rp 50 million. The announcement was made via his personal social media account. The policy was adopted as an effort to create a deterrent effect for criminals while increasing public vigilance amid concerns over rampant criminal activity. In addition to urging residents to be more alert, Dedi has instructed all security personnel, from the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) to the Fire Department (Damkar), to increase readiness at strategic points. Night patrols are to be optimised with rotating lights switched on as a sign of the officers’ presence in the field. ‘Firstly, patrol cars must be on standby every night, their hazard lights must remain on. Satpol PP and Damkar must be on standby at strategic points to anticipate any possibility at any time. Residents should conduct neighbourhood watches, guard themselves and be guarded by others, this is our basic principle of mutual cooperation,’ Dedi said in his post. In addition to alerting officers, KDM, as Dedi Mulyadi is familiarly known, has also prepared rewards for residents who manage to disable criminals, such as thieves, pickpockets, muggers, and robbers. The value of the rewards prepared ranges from Rp 5 million to Rp 50 million. However, Dedi stressed a key condition for the reward: the perpetrator must be handed over to the police alive so they can be processed according to the law. ‘Furthermore, I am offering a bounty to all West Java residents who can disable thieves, pickpockets, muggers, and robbers. We have prepared a reward ranging from Rp 5 million to Rp 50 million for those who manage to thwart these criminal acts and hand over the perpetrators to the police alive,’ he said.
