West Java Governor Offers Bounty for Capturing Criminals Alive

Bandung, VIVA – West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has announced a competition offering members of the public cash prizes of up to Rp 50 million for successfully subduing perpetrators of crimes such as street robbery. The announcement was made via his personal social media account.

The policy was adopted as an effort to deter criminals whilst also raising public vigilance amid growing public anxiety over the prevalence of criminal activity.

As well as urging residents to be more alert, Dedi also instructed all security personnel, from Satpol PP to the Fire and Rescue Service (Damkar), to heighten readiness at strategic points. Night patrols are to be optimised by activating rotator lights as a sign of officers’ presence in the field.

“Firstly, patrol vehicles must be on standby every night, with their warning lights kept on continuously. Satpol PP and Damkar must be on alert at strategic points to anticipate any possibility at any time. Residents should take part in community patrols (siskamling), protecting themselves and being protected — this is our fundamental principle of living in mutual cooperation,” Dedi said in his post.

Beyond mobilising security forces, KDM — as Dedi Mulyadi is affectionately known — has also prepared prizes for residents who manage to subdue criminals, including thieves, pickpockets, bag snatchers, street robbers and muggers. The prize money on offer ranges from Rp 5 million to Rp 50 million.

However, Dedi stressed that there is one key requirement for receiving the reward: the perpetrator must be handed over to the police alive so that they can be processed in accordance with the prevailing law.

“Next, I am offering a competition to all residents of West Java who can subdue thieves, pickpockets, bag snatchers, street robbers and muggers. We have prepared prizes of Rp 5 million to Rp 50 million for those able to subdue various criminal acts and hand the perpetrators over to the police alive,” he said.
