West Java Governor KDM Evaluates Old Angkot Fleet and Plans Husein Airport Reopening

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, known as KDM, has announced that the provincial government will immediately evaluate the operations of intercity and inter-regency public minivans (angkot) that are no longer roadworthy. The governor stated that the government is not merely enforcing regulations but is also preparing a solution by encouraging drivers to become vehicle owners through a financing scheme that requires no down payment. He argued that if drivers act as owners who pay instalments and maintain their vehicles, they will be far more disciplined. KDM also emphasised that the rejuvenation of the city transport fleet should be dominated by electric vehicles to support an environmentally friendly ecosystem. He stressed that modern transportation must be supported by a change in public behaviour and improved urban infrastructure, including pedestrian-friendly pavements, adequate street lighting, and proper waste management. In addition to land transport, KDM confirmed that Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung is scheduled to resume operations for domestic flights starting in August. The provincial government is also committed to reactivating international flight routes to and from the airport. He urged the Bandung city administration to enhance public services to support the growth of tourism and the local economy. Regarding the division of roles, KDM clarified that the West Java International Airport (BIJB) in Kertajati, Majalengka, will remain the backbone for Hajj and Umrah flight services.
