West Java Governor Hopes Samsat Services Will Be as Swift as Banking
The vehicle tax payment services at Samsat offices throughout West Java are hoped to be as effective and efficient as banking services. This is to make it easier for the public to fulfil their obligation to pay vehicle taxes.
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi conveyed this. He also stated that currently, Samsat services have begun effectively implementing the contents of a circular regarding the facilitation of annual vehicle tax payments without needing to bring the original owner’s ID.
“All these steps are efforts to build convenience so that West Java residents can easily pay vehicle taxes. They want to pay taxes. If they want to pay taxes, why make it complicated? Everything must be facilitated,” he said on Thursday (9/8/2026).
According to him, public services like Samsat must take cues from the conveniences provided by banks to their customers. So far, banks have offered ease in various services to customers, from withdrawing savings to replacing lost ATM cards and passbooks.
“We must learn from banking; going to the bank to withdraw money doesn’t require bringing the passbook, just the ATM. Replacing an ATM is easy, replacing a passbook is easy, transfers are easy, everything is facilitated so that banking has become the darling of Indonesians,” he said.
He revealed that banking services, which require high security, continue to strive to make things easier for customers regarding financial transactions. This can certainly be practised in government services.
“Government services [for taxes] are difficult; when people pay taxes, facilitate them, don’t make it difficult. This is my hope,” he said.
