West Java Governor Highlights Low Wages and Pollution from Limestone Mines

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has highlighted environmental pollution from limestone mines in the Cipatat area, West Bandung Regency. He also drew attention to the low wages of mine workers, their lack of health protection and job security, and the fact that many companies are unlicensed.

“I toured Cipatat. Firstly, many of these companies are not registered. Secondly, their employees are not paid in accordance with legal provisions,” he said on Thursday (16/7/2026).

He stated that the limestone workers lack health insurance and old-age benefits. Additionally, 11 companies were found to be operating without permits.

The environmental pollution from the limestone mines has left the Cipatat area covered in dust. The governor has requested the Environmental Agency to conduct laboratory tests, with results expected within a week.

“You can see the dust from the limestone has now turned white in Cipatat, so I have asked the Environmental Agency to carry out lab tests. They say the results will be out in a week,” he revealed.
