West Java Governor Demands Severe Sanctions for Health Workers Who Insulted Deceased BPJS Patient

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has stated he will ask the Mayor of Tasikmalaya to impose sanctions on health workers who insulted a BPJS patient who has since died. He stressed that health workers must not make inappropriate remarks. “This falls under the mayor’s authority. I will ask the mayor to impose sanctions in accordance with the applicable regulations,” he said on Wednesday (5/8/2026). He emphasised that healthcare services must never involve uttering inappropriate words to patients. “There will certainly be provisions that can be applied in the form of sanctions against the health workers,” he added. Previously, Yurizal Tri Chaerawan had to wait eight hours to receive treatment in the emergency department. He was using a healthcare facility but was not immediately treated. A number of netizens with medical backgrounds then criticised the victim’s statements. Yurizal was later reported to have died. The health workers and doctors who insulted the deceased came under public scrutiny. They subsequently apologised via text message. The Ministry of Health also commented on the matter.
