West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has asserted that the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) must possess significant courage in enforcing regulations, carrying out legal actions, and securing state assets. “The courage of Satpol PP depends on the courage of the regional head. If the head is brave, responsible, and always at the forefront, then Satpol PP will be brave in solving various problems, creating a clean, beautiful, and aesthetic environmental governance,” Dedi said in a written statement on Friday (26/6/2026). He made the remarks during a joint assembly commemorating the 107th Anniversary of the Fire Service, the 76th Anniversary of Satpol PP, and the 64th Anniversary of Community Protection Units (Satlinmas) at the West Java provincial level. The event, which took place at Garut Town Square on Wednesday (24/6/2026), also included the destruction of illegal excisable goods. Dedi stressed that for Satpol PP to work professionally, its recruitment system must be strict and based on merit, not on favouritism. After recruitment, officers should undergo three to four months of training. “The posture must be proper, the uniform neat, the shoes neat. What is the purpose of this? Two things: first, law enforcement; second, securing and recovering assets,” he asserted. The Governor also advised Fire Service, Linmas, and Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) personnel in West Java to always be the first and foremost in handling disaster victims. “The existence of Linmas should not be underestimated, seen only as traffic controllers, event stewards, or just asked to move chairs. In fact, they are the first to face problems at the village level. They often work voluntarily for a small honorarium,” he said. Dedi also spoke with a 91-year-old Linmas member named Iwan, who has been serving since the 1970s and remains loyal despite the modest pay. Iwan was even tested on his marching skills and was able to follow the governor’s commands smartly, earning him a reward. “At 91 years old, he remains a loyal Linmas member with an upright posture. I am giving him a reward of IDR 50 million in assistance,” Dedi concluded.
