West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi to Cover Medical Costs of Abuse Victim Denied BPJS Coverage

The case of the confinement and abuse of a woman with the initials YTR (29) has drawn public attention. The victim, from Rancaekek, Bandung Regency, West Java, was allegedly held captive for three years by her boyfriend, a man named Taufik Hidayat. She was found in a critical condition, covered in serious wounds, in a rented room in the Cileunyi area of Bandung Regency. West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has taken a personal interest in the case. Through his Instagram account, he shared a meeting with the victim’s sister-in-law, Melani, who recounted YTR’s current condition. In his post, the governor cautioned women across the region. ‘Dear all women in West Java. Be careful of men’s seductions,’ he wrote. Governor Dedi Mulyadi revealed that the victim had been missing for nearly two years after being taken by a man named Taufik Hidayat. The family eventually found YTR at Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung with permanent disabilities. She had lost her eyesight, her lips had been cut off with scissors, and her body was covered in wounds from cigarette burns and other serious injuries. The perpetrator is still being pursued by the West Java Regional Police. Dedi Mulyadi expressed confidence that the police would soon arrest him, describing the act as heinous and noting that the motive remains unknown. The former Purwakarta Regent expressed deep concern over the victim’s fate, noting that she was once a career woman with considerable wealth. He also received reports that YTR’s BPJS health insurance could not be claimed because her injuries were the result of a criminal assault. In response, the governor pledged to cover all her medical expenses until she recovers. ‘There was a complaint that BPJS cannot be claimed because she is a victim of abuse. For that reason, we will bear all the costs until she recovers,’ said Dedi Mulyadi.
