West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi Says No Protests Over Diponegoro Road Closure as Alternative Route Opens

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has responded to parties protesting the closure of Jalan Diponegoro for the redevelopment of Gedung Sate. According to him, no residents are currently protesting because an alternative route has been prepared to temporarily replace Jalan Diponegoro. “Who is protesting? I feel like no one is protesting now. I feel like there are no protests now,” he said on Thursday (16/7/2026). He explained that residents protested previously when the road was about to be closed and there was no alternative. However, an alternative road circling Gasibu has now been prepared, making it more comfortable. He assured that the alternative route would be comfortable for both motorcyclists and car drivers. He claimed to have traversed the route three times himself. Access to Jalan Diponegoro in Bandung City has been temporarily closed until 7 September 2026 due to the ongoing redevelopment of the Gedung Sate courtyard up to Gasibu by the West Java Provincial Government. Several traffic engineering measures have been implemented to ensure smooth vehicle flow. Observations show that vehicles coming from the eastern end of Jalan Diponegoro heading towards Jalan Cilamaya, Jalan Sulanjana, or Jalan Trunojoyo can pass through Jalan Sentot Alibasyah, Jalan Surapati, and then onto Jalan Majapahit. Meanwhile, vehicles from the western end of Jalan Diponegoro heading east can use the reverse route. Project workers were seen improving the road area where the library building once stood, as well as pedestrian pavements. Residents were observed exercising in the Gasibu area. Traffic flow was still light and not yet congested around 10:17 WIB.
