West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi Requests Armed Police at Crime Hotspots
GUBERNUR Jawa Barat, Dedi Mulyadi, has responded swiftly to public anxiety over rising security disturbances in the region. In a strategic move to suppress crime rates, Dedi stated he has conducted intensive coordination with the West Java Police Chief to ensure maximum protection for residents.
On Tuesday (21/7), Dedi revealed that one of the main outcomes of the coordination was the reinforcement of security at locations deemed vulnerable. This step was taken in response to residents’ reports of feeling unsafe due to various street crimes and social conflicts.
In an effort to provide a deterrent effect and rapid response to criminal acts, Governor Dedi Mulyadi proposed the placement of armed police personnel at strategic locations considered to have high crime vulnerability.
“Based on coordination with the West Java Police Chief, security will be strengthened at vulnerable points. We also propose the placement of armed police personnel at locations deemed prone to crime,” Dedi said.
According to him, the physical presence of adequately equipped officers in the field is not merely a repressive measure, but part of a psychological effort to create a sense of safety for citizens going about their activities, especially during vulnerable hours.
Dedi stressed that the attention of the government and security forces is not focused on just one type of crime. He mapped out several security disturbances that are priorities for handling, including street muggings, robberies, various criminal acts troubling residents, as well as motorcycle gang activity and brawls among youths and adults, which must be a shared concern.
Although security by police forces is being increased, Dedi Mulyadi emphasised that regional security cannot be entirely placed on the shoulders of officers. He called on all levels of West Java society to revive the spirit of mutual cooperation in safeguarding their neighbourhoods.
Dedi encouraged the reactivation of routine patrol activities at the neighbourhood and community unit levels. Active citizen involvement is considered the most effective early detection method in preventing criminals from entering residential areas.
Concluding his statement, Governor Dedi Mulyadi publicly apologised to the people of West Java for the security conditions that had caused concern in recent times. He assured that the West Java Provincial Government, together with security forces, will not stand idly by.
“The West Java Provincial Government, together with security forces, will continue to strive to improve protection and provide a sense of safety for all residents,” he concluded.
