West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi Rejects Proposal to Reintroduce SPP Fees for State High Schools

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has firmly rejected the recent discourse on reinstating Sumbangan Pembinaan Pendidikan (SPP) fees for state senior high schools (SMA) and vocational high schools (SMK) in the province. He stated that the operational needs of schools can be fully met through the existing School Operational Assistance (BOS) funds and operational aid from the West Java Provincial Government. According to the governor, a review of school budget requirements found that the available funds are sufficient to finance teaching and learning activities without burdening parents with SPP levies. “I have checked. It is sufficient with BOS funds and operational funds from the West Java Provincial Government. It is enough, there are many samples, a lot of data,” he said on Saturday (18/7/2026). The former Purwakarta Regent also highlighted the misuse of BOS funds in several schools. Based on audit results, the value of findings in the 2025 Regional Budget reached approximately Rp 4 billion. “In fact, if we open it up, the findings of BOS funds being used for non-educational purposes in the 2025 APBD amount to Rp 4 billion,” he said. According to him, these findings indicate that the main problem is not a lack of budget, but rather the governance of fund utilisation that must be rectified. “I assess the budget is sufficient. If it is too much, there is potential for it to be used for other interests. It would become a burden for school principals. It is a pity, we don’t want anyone to face criminal charges due to mismanaging BOS funds,” he said. Going forward, the West Java Provincial Government will focus the budget on improving the quality of school facilities, ranging from toilet repairs to sports facilities and places of worship, so that students can learn more comfortably. “The point is, schools must be in good condition, students must be creative, and the Provincial Government is committed to that,” KDM asserted.
