West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has spoken out about the case of alleged confinement and severe abuse of a woman, identified by the initials YTR, in Bandung, which has drawn widespread public attention. Through his personal Instagram account, he expressed strong condemnation and anger over the incident, which he described as a ‘barbaric’ act occurring in West Java.

In his statement, Dedi Mulyadi highlighted the victim’s condition, saying she suffered severe violence that had a serious impact on her physical health. He also publicly named the suspected perpetrator, who is still being pursued by authorities. ‘To all residents of West Java and Indonesia, I am reporting that a barbaric incident has occurred in West Java,’ he said, as quoted from his Instagram account on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.

He went on to describe the victim’s condition, which he said was deeply distressing and difficult to accept on humanitarian grounds. ‘A woman who was in a relationship, confined, abused, her eyes damaged until she can no longer see, and her lips possibly cut—I cannot bear to look at her. Her entire body is blistered and damaged,’ he revealed.

Dedi Mulyadi also expressed his fury towards the suspect, named Taufik Hidayat, who is currently a fugitive. ‘I am very angry with this man, named Taufik Hidayat, who is now a fugitive.’ Nevertheless, he stated his confidence that the police would soon apprehend the perpetrator. ‘And I believe that the West Java Police team will be able to arrest him soon.’

He also urged the public to participate in the search for the suspect, who remains at large. According to him, public involvement could accelerate the legal process. ‘But I also provide room for citizens anywhere to participate in searching for him. Whoever can find Taufik Hidayat, hand him over to the authorities or inform the authorities of his whereabouts,’ he continued.

As an incentive, Dedi Mulyadi even promised a reward for members of the public who provide valid information about the suspect’s location. ‘I am offering a reward of Rp250 million, as a form of my participation, so that Taufik Hidayat is found and arrested immediately.’ He concluded his statement by expressing appreciation to the police who are continuing the pursuit. ‘For that, I thank the ranks of the West Java Police. Let us together arrest this barbaric Taufik Hidayat, and to all citizens, let us search for him together. Greetings to everyone. Thank you.’
