Bandung (ANTARA) - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has opened the possibility for the West Java Regional-Owned Enterprise (BUMD) to take over the management of Bandung Zoo to save the fate of employees and maintain the continuity of conservation in the area. This statement comes following the absence of a final decision from the Bandung City Government regarding the appointment of a new management institution. Currently, the Bandung City Government is reportedly still in the stage of “auditioning” and conducting in-depth studies to select the appropriate manager. “Based on the report from the West Java Forestry Service yesterday, it said that until now no decision can be made, due to various considerations including legal considerations,” Dedi said in a statement in Bandung on Friday. The man familiarly known as KDM explained that the Bandung City Government has requested one month from the Ministry of Forestry to consider which party is most worthy to lead Bandung Zoo. KDM emphasised that the West Java Provincial Government’s interest in managing the legendary asset is not solely motivated by financial gain, but purely for the mission of environmental and social salvation. According to him, the Bandung Zoo area is considered a crucial lung for the city because it has urban forest vegetation that is still well-maintained with a lineup of large trees. “The province through BUMD becomes the manager of the Zoo not for business purposes, but the aim is to save employees and conservation. Because that area is very good, well-arranged, and the forests are relatively good, the trees are still large,” he said.
