The funds are intended to help secure the future of the victim, who suffered abuse and confinement. The reward was originally offered as a bounty for information leading to the arrest of the suspect, Taufik Hidayat. Governor Mulyadi explained that because the suspect was apprehended by the police, the reward money could not be given to law enforcement and was instead presented to the victim’s family. He added that the bounty had a psychological impact on the suspect, contributing to his eventual return to Bandung and subsequent arrest.
