West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi Enjoys Near-Unanimous Public Approval Rating
The Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) has released its latest survey evaluating public sentiment towards the performance of the West Java provincial government over the past year and a half. The results show that the level of public satisfaction with the leadership of Governor Dedi Mulyadi is exceptionally high, reaching 95.4 per cent.
LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan stated that this high satisfaction rate is underpinned by several indicators, including a stable perception of the regional economy, a positive assessment of the general governance, and the effectiveness of various public service programmes.
“The public satisfaction level with the governor stands at 95.4 per cent. This is a very high figure, although the satisfaction level for the deputy governor, as in many other regions, is below that of the governor,” Djayadi Hanan said during the survey presentation in Bandung on Thursday (23/7).
He detailed three main factors underlying the high appreciation from West Java residents for Dedi’s performance. Firstly, the public’s evaluation of economic conditions, which are considered to be in a moderate and controlled category, with 44 per cent of the community believing the current economic situation is stable.
Secondly, a positive assessment of general government administration. More than 60 per cent of respondents expressed satisfaction with the implementation of government programmes, which were deemed to be running well.
“Thirdly, widespread appreciation for essential public service sectors such as infrastructure, health services, education, the cooperative sector, and various other community programmes that directly address the daily needs of West Java residents,” he added.
Beyond policy and work programmes, LSI also highlighted the governor’s personal attributes, which are considered to have a very strong influence on positive public perception. According to Hanan, Dedi’s popularity currently touches nearly 100 per cent, meaning almost all of West Java’s residents know him.
“Why does this factor matter? Because Dedi is one of the most popular governors among the public, with a recognition level of almost 100 per cent,” he said.
He added that Dedi’s communication style is very down-to-earth and has a strong human touch regarding the daily dynamics of life across various social strata. “It is this touch that has increased the level of trust and positive evaluation from the public, not only towards the governor as an individual but also directly impacting the overall appreciation of the West Java Provincial Government’s performance,” he concluded.
