West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi Donates Rp250 Million Bounty to Abuse Victim's Family
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has decided that the Rp250 million bounty offered for information leading to the arrest of Taufik Hidayat, a suspect in the confinement and abuse of a woman identified as YTR, will be given to the victim’s family as provision for their future. Speaking at a press conference at the West Java Regional Police headquarters in Bandung on Friday, Dedi explained that since the police made the arrest, they are technically the winners of the contest. “West Java Police Chief called me and requested that I hand it over to the victim’s family for their future,” Dedi said. Dedi noted that the bounty announcement had a psychological effect on the suspect, causing him to constantly move hiding places before he was finally arrested by police at a house in Griya Pesona Housing Complex, Ciparay, Bandung Regency. “This bounty had a psychological effect on the suspect. Wherever he went, he felt many people were watching him, causing confusion. Because of this confusion, he returned to Bandung,” he stated. Furthermore, Dedi confirmed that the West Java Provincial Government will cover all of the victim’s medical expenses until she fully recovers. He said preliminary calculations estimate the cost of care for the victim over the next two weeks will reach approximately Rp1 billion, which has been prepared by the provincial government. “The family will also stop working because they must focus on caring for the victim. Consequently, the West Java Provincial Government has decided to guarantee all health services for the victim until she recovers,” Dedi said. He added that the victim’s family no longer needs to raise donations to finance medical treatment or daily needs while accompanying the victim during her recovery. “Those who have donated are welcome to help with the family’s livelihood and the victim’s future. For the family, from the time I visited until today, we ensure they can stop working, continue caring for her, and have their livelihood guaranteed,” he concluded.
