West Java Governor Dedi Mullyadi urges citizens to emulate rural life on Pancasila Day
On Pancasila Day, West Java Governor Dedi Mullyadi urged all segments of society to emulate the lifestyle of rural and remote villagers. Despite being often regarded as backward or distant from civilization, rural communities are seen as a genuine embodiment of Pancasila’s values.
Commonly known as KDM, he stressed that the essence of Pancasila lies not in memorising the text but in daily behaviour. He believes that remote villagers have already integrated the state ideology into their daily lives.
‘In their essence, Pancasila lives in their breath, their souls, and their actions. We must never lecture those who may not recall the Pancasila text but live it in reality,’ Dedi Mullyadi said in Bandung on Monday (June ).
He explained that the grand vision for the nation and Pancasila is a life grounded in divine principles and mutual compassion. These values, he added, are reflected in the strong culture of community cooperation in villages to fulfill family and societal aspirations.
He added that the rural habit of gathering and deliberating to resolve issues exemplifies the principle of consensus. Moreover, a sense of justice, both material and intangible, is more evident in such environments.
‘This is the dream of national life and Pancasila. All these dreams come alive precisely in villages, in remote hamlets considered backward and sometimes demeaned as societies distant from civilization,’ he concluded.
On a different note, KDM harshly criticized the current phenomenon where many parties, including himself, routinely recite Pancasila during ceremonies or hold ritualistic commemorations, yet their actions remain far from the true spirit of Pancasila.
He hopes this year’s Pancasila Day will mark a turning point in collective consciousness for all Indonesian citizens.
‘May Pancasila Day remind us all that Pancasila is not just decoration in offices, not just words during ceremonies, but a way of life that grows within individuals and society. May we live harmoniously, ideologically, philosophically, as a nation and state grounded in Pancasila,’ he stressed.
