West Java Governor Declares War on Thuggery at Legok Nangka Waste-to-Energy Project

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has confirmed that the West Java Regional Police and the III/Siliwangi Military Command will provide 24-hour security for the Legok Nangka Waste Processing and Final Processing Site (TPPAS) to prevent thuggery during the construction of the National Strategic Project (PSN). “I have asked the Police Chief and the Military Commander to guard it 24 hours. No one is allowed to come here demanding a levy for sand deliveries, stone deliveries, and the like,” he stated in Bandung on Thursday. He emphasised that the measure aims to ensure the strategic waste-to-energy project proceeds without interference from parties seeking illegal profits. “I am declaring war on thuggery. Allowing people to earn money without working will set a bad precedent,” he said. The Governor expressed hope that the construction of TPPAS Legok Nangka will provide broad benefits to the community, including supporting the target of providing electricity access to all West Java residents by 2027. The development of TPPAS Legok Nangka is part of the government’s efforts to accelerate the clean energy transition and address the waste emergency in West Java. The facility is projected to generate up to 40.79 megawatts of electricity through incinerator technology operating at temperatures above 800 degrees Celsius, while also processing plastic waste into bioenergy under a circular economy concept.
