West Java Government to Host Quran Recitation Competition After Garut Withdraws
The Chairman of the West Java Quranic Recitation Development Institute (LPTQ), Asep Sukmana, has confirmed that the West Java MTQ will go ahead. The West Java Provincial Government will organise the event directly after the Garut Regency Government withdrew as host.
The West Java MTQ will be held in early 2027. The opening ceremony will take place at Gedung Sate, with the closing at Al-Jabbar Mosque.
Asep welcomed the West Java Provincial Government’s willingness to stage the MTQ, as the event serves as a means of fostering young people’s interest in reading and internalising the Quran. The MTQ also serves as a vehicle for Islamic outreach that strengthens the sense of brotherhood.
“I would like to thank the West Java Provincial Government for its willingness to host the West Java MTQ,” Asep said, quoted on Monday, 3 August 2026.
Information regarding the confirmed staging of the West Java MTQ was disseminated to LPTQ chairmen across all regencies and cities in West Java on 2 August 2026.
Previously, the West Java MTQ had been at risk of cancellation owing to the inadequate financial condition of the Garut Regency Government.
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi understood the regency’s financial situation and confirmed that the provincial government would serve as host of the West Java MTQ.
The Governor expressed hope that the event would be conducted with integrity, including at the judging stage, as it is a momentum for spreading the message of Islam and teaching the values of the Quran.
