West Java Government Targets New Teras Cihampelas Face by October 2026
The West Java Provincial Government has officially taken over the management of the Cihampelas area from the Bandung City Government. This move marks the starting point for the redevelopment of Teras Cihampelas to restore its prestige as a centre for the creative industry, fashion, and a leading tourist destination.
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that collaboration between the West Java Provincial Government and the Bandung City Government continues to produce concrete steps in resolving urban issues. He emphasised that the province’s role is no longer limited to managing administrative policies but also involves directly handling technical development matters on the ground.
“West Java Province is no longer just dealing with administration, but also technical matters. This is perhaps the first time in history that a provincial government has built pavements and parks. This kind of development focus is intended for urban centre areas, while for rural areas we focus on road infrastructure development,” Dedi said in a statement on Tuesday (4/8/2026).
He made the statement after the signing of the Regional Grant Agreement and the Handover Report at Bandung City Hall on Wednesday (29/7). Following this handover, the West Java Provincial Government will complete the administrative process as a basis for commencing physical development. Dedi hopes Cihampelas can once again thrive as an icon of Bandung with global appeal.
“After Teras Cihampelas was handed over to the provincial government, we immediately began administrative arrangements to revitalise Cihampelas. The goal is for this area to return to its former glory; becoming a centre for the creative industry, a fashion barometer, and a visiting hub for people from various regions, including foreign tourists,” he said.
Dedi conveyed that the new Teras Cihampelas is expected to synergise with the resumption of flight services at Husein Sastranegara Airport. He is optimistic this will boost foreign tourist visits, especially from neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam.
“With the reopening of Husein Airport, I am confident more tourists from Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei will return. They often come just for a haircut or facial treatment, which leads to them staying longer. Since the city’s revenue relies on hotel and restaurant taxes, public areas must be made as attractive as possible to invite more visits,” he explained.
Regarding technical execution, Dedi targets the area’s redevelopment to proceed quickly and transparently. The demolition of old facilities and the new construction will be carried out through a public auction mechanism.
“The administrative matters and everything else are targeted to be completed within one month, so that by October all physical work is finished,” Dedi asserted. He also guaranteed that the government’s main principle in this project is high integrity without any irregularities. “As long as we have good intentions and the process is transparent, without any deviant fees in the auction, as long as we are straightforward, everyone will understand that,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan appreciated the collaboration between the Bandung City Government and the West Java Provincial Government in completing various vital urban projects. “Alhamdulillah, today an extraordinary synergy has been established between the City and Provincial Governments. Of the three main issues we discussed with the Governor, all have progressed well. The Legok Nangka Waste Processing and Final Processing Site has had its groundbreaking, and today Teras Cihampelas has been officially handed over. The three most discussed issues between the Governor and I are resolved,” Farhan said. He expressed hope that the transfer of management and the redevelopment of Teras Cihampelas will not only improve infrastructure but also serve as a stimulus to revive the pulse of the creative economy, trade, and tourism in the heart of Bandung City.
