West Java Government Prepares Rehabilitation for Students Involved in Gay Party
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that the provincial government is preparing rehabilitation assistance for students involved in a gay party at a nightspot in Karawang Regency. “The policy is, if they are students, then we are obliged to fix them. If they are members of the public, well, perhaps I also have to fix them,” he said in Bandung on Tuesday. “Later we will look for an institution that can cure gay people. Hopefully, military barracks can resolve gay issues,” he said. Dedi said the provincial government is working to verify the identities of the gay party participants at the Karawang nightspot to determine who were teenagers and students. Dedi supports the Karawang Regency Government’s efforts in handling the case. “From the regional aspect, the Regent has already stated that there is no place for gay people in Karawang. Now the Regent and all ranks must take more concrete action,” he said. Meanwhile, West Java Regional Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, said that police conducted an inspection of the nightspot in Karawang following the circulation of a video showing indecent acts at the party recorded on Sunday (7/6) around 1:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. Based on the video circulating on social media platforms, he explained, Karawang Resort Police officers carried out an inspection at Theater Night Mart and sought information about the owner of the nightclub that held the party. Hendra said that after examining seven witnesses, including the nightclub owner, from 8 to 9 June 2026, police named three individuals as suspects for committing criminal acts of same-sex obscenity, namely SA, RD, and DD. “We conducted intensive examinations today and further action against the perpetrators who appeared in the aforementioned video,” he said. The three suspects who have been arrested are charged under articles 406 and 414 of the Criminal Code. “Where article 406 concerns cases of violating public decency in a public place and violating decency in front of others, carrying a penalty of 2 years and 6 months, while Article 414 concerns lewd acts, carrying a penalty of 9 years,” Hendra said.
