West Java Government Holds Cheap Market in Six Areas Ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 AH
Leading up to Eid al-Adha 1447 AH, the West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov Jabar), through its Industry and Trade Department (Disperindag), has taken proactive measures to stabilise staple food prices. A six-district Pasar Murah (Cheap Market) initiative for 2026 will run over three days from 20-22 May 2026 across six regencies and cities in West Java.
Disperindag Head Nining Yuliastiani stated the initiative is a tangible government effort to help citizens access quality food at affordable prices amid rising demand ahead of the religious holiday.
“The 2026 Pasar Murah is held in Sukabumi Regency, Karawang Regency, Bandung Regency, Bogor City, Cirebon City, and Tasikmalaya City. Observations indicate around 6,000 visitors attended the various locations,” Nining told Media Indonesia on Tuesday (26/5/2026).
She added that public enthusiasm has been high, particularly among housewives queuing from early morning. All commodities sold are priced below market rates due to distribution subsidies and direct collaboration with producers and distributors.
“Consumers can purchase staple goods directly from producers. This is made possible through collaboration with state-owned enterprises (BUMN), retail operators, and support from Bank Indonesia, Perum Bulog, and ID Food,” she explained.
In addition to staple foods, the Cheap Market involves 38 trained Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) selling processed food products. This also serves as a platform to promote West Java’s local products to the wider public.
The programme is integrated with the Food Affordability Movement by Jabar’s Food Security and Livestock Department (DKPP) and supported by the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo). Through this integration, Pemprov Jabar is confident it can enhance food accessibility and support regional inflation control ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 AH.
“We hope this initiative will significantly benefit the public, enabling them to celebrate Eid al-Adha without the burden of soaring food prices,” Nining concluded.
