West Java Government Distributes Pasundan and PO Cattle to Three Regencies

The West Java Provincial Government has distributed 24 superior local cattle breeding stock, comprising Pasundan and Peranakan Ongole (PO) breeds, to three farmer groups in Pangandaran, Sumedang, and Ciamis. The initiative aims to strengthen the population and preserve the genetic resources of local livestock.

Head of the West Java Food Security and Animal Husbandry Agency (DKPP), Linda Al Amin, explained that the programme targets three recipient groups: Tirta Mulya Livestock Group in Pangandaran, Mekar Mandiri in Sumedang, and Karya Mekar I in Ciamis. Each group received eight cattle, consisting of seven females and one male.

‘The breeding stock is tailored to the potential of each region, with PO cattle for Pangandaran and Sumedang, and Pasundan cattle, a local breed that is the pride of West Java, specifically for farmers in Ciamis,’ said Linda in Bandung on Saturday.

The handover was carried out in stages, beginning with the Tirta Mulya group in Padaherang District, Pangandaran, on Wednesday (12/8), followed by the Mekar Mandiri group in Lebaksiuh Village, Sumedang, on Thursday (13/8), and the Karya Mekar I group at the UPTD BPPIBTSP Ciamis on Friday (14/8).

Linda explained that the distribution of cattle breeding stock is a concrete implementation of West Java Governor Regulation Number 2 of 2018 concerning the Development of Livestock Seeds and/or Breeding Stock and Forage in the Community.

‘Robust breeding will lead to the realisation of competitive livestock businesses in the community, ultimately increasing the income and welfare of farmers and breeders,’ she said.

The selection of the three beneficiary groups was not arbitrary, but was conducted through strict administrative selection and field verification. Based on the Minutes of Livestock Group Verification Results dated 27 July 2026, the Tirta Mulya and Karya Mekar I groups obtained a feasibility score of 72.5, while Mekar Mandiri achieved a score of 62.0.

The verification ensured that the recipient groups already possess adequate livestock facilities, including barns and potential feed resources, to guarantee the survival and breeding of the cattle.

The handover of assistance through the West Java DKPP was directly overseen by Linda Al Amin together with the Head of UPTD Balai Perbibitan dan Pengembangan Inseminasi Buatan Ternak Sapi Potong Ciamis, Vidi Wulandari, and was attended by regional leaders from each respective regency.
