West Java Government Closes Pancawaluya 2026 School Orientation with Ecological Action

The West Java Provincial Government closed the 2026 Pancawaluya School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) with an Ecological Action centred at the Cikutra Heroes Cemetery in Bandung City on Tuesday. The event was attended by representatives of high school and vocational school students and was held simultaneously across all regencies and cities in West Java. The ecological action took place at 882 state school points with activities centralised in 27 regencies/cities. Overall, the activity involved 343,190 new grade X students from state and private high schools, vocational schools, and special needs schools, of which 327,604 students were from state schools. Regional Secretary Herman Suryatman stressed that the Ecological Action is not merely the closing of MPLS, but the beginning of character building that must be continuously realised in daily life. ‘This activity is only symbolic. The most important thing is the real movement after returning home, to school, and to the community,’ he asserted. The Regional Secretary also invited students to get used to engaging in various domestic activities as part of character building. According to him, simple habits such as sweeping the house, washing and ironing one’s own clothes, helping parents trade or farm, and maintaining environmental cleanliness are exercises to build leadership, independence, responsibility, and social awareness. ‘The best way to predict the future is to create it today. Start with small, simple things, but do them consistently. Good habits will shape your character and lead you to become leaders in the future,’ he stressed. He added that a person’s success is not only determined by academic ability, but also by character and soft skills built through positive habits in daily life. Meanwhile, Head of the West Java Education Office, Purwanto, stated that the Ecological Action is part of pedagogical practice in implementing Pancawaluya character education, which is expected to become a culture in all educational units. ‘The Ecological Action is not a one-day activity. This is a learning practice that must become a habit in schools, starting from maintaining personal hygiene, classrooms, schoolyards, to the surrounding environment as part of character education,’ he said. The Ecological Action was carried out collaboratively with River Clean Up Indonesia, the Sapulidi Community, regional apparatuses, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the Indonesian National Police, and various other environmental care communities. At the provincial level, participants carried out various real actions, such as ‘operasi semut’ (litter-picking operations), cleaning areas and rivers, and cleaning and caring for the heroes’ cemetery area, while also participating in environmental conservation education with River Clean Up Indonesia and the West Java Education Office’s Sapulidi Community.
