Bandung (ANTARA) - The West Java provincial government has ensured that the rights of workers affected by layoffs (PHK) in the province are fulfilled, allowing them to return to the workforce or start businesses more calmly as soon as possible.

Head of the West Java Labour and Transmigration Office (Disnakertrans), I Gusti Agung Kim Fajar Wiyati Oka, stated this in response to data on the number of workers laid off in the first quarter of 2026, according to Ministry of Manpower figures, totalling 1,721 people.

The West Java Disnakertrans is also taking mitigation steps to prevent these layoffs from spreading further.

“We are ensuring the availability of government stimulus programmes that can ease the burden on the industrial sector,” said Kim Agung.

According to Kim, the current layoffs are influenced by external and internal factors. External factors include the global crisis triggered by the war between Iran and the Israel-America coalition.

The war has caused much turmoil, such as rising prices of fuel oil, plastics, and several other commodities. The war also affects several export products, impacting industries in Indonesia, particularly in West Java.

Protection against the threat of layoffs was one of the workers’ demands on May Day 1 May 2026.

Layoffs triggered by domestic or global situations are seen as worsening uncertainty for workers in various sectors.
