West Java DPRD warns that TPPAS Sarimukti's capacity will last only one year
Bandung (ANTARA) - Tedy Rusmawan, a member of Commission IV of the West Java DPRD, has reminded that the capacity of the Tempat Pengolahan dan Pemrosesan Akhir Sampah (TPPAS) Sarimukti in West Bandung Regency is estimated to last only around one year. According to Tedy, the current operational capacity of TPPAS Sarimukti is already concerning, as zone V, the final disposal area, is approaching, and even exceeding, its maximum limit. He assesses that this situation must be treated with serious attention, given that the replacement waste processing facility, TPPAS Legok Nangka, is targeted for completion only in 2029. This means there will be a gap of around three to four years that could potentially cause a waste emergency if not anticipated early. Tedy encourages local governments in the Bandung Raya region, which rely on Sarimukti, to take immediate concrete steps, one of which is strengthening waste sorting at the source. He emphasises that the public must be disciplined in separating waste from households, particularly organic waste that can be managed independently at the community level. In addition, the management of organic waste at the RT/RW and sub-district levels needs to be optimised so that not all of it is disposed of at Sarimukti. Another important step deemed necessary is significantly reducing the volume of waste sent to the TPPAS to extend the lifespan of the remaining zones. “This step is key to curbing the load sent to Sarimukti, whose capacity is already very limited,” said Tedy. He affirmed that the West Java DPRD will continue to monitor waste management policies to ensure the transition process to TPPAS Legok Nangka runs smoothly without disrupting environmental cleanliness.
