West Java DPRD Urges Task Force to Combat Illegal Migrant Worker Departures

The West Java Provincial House of Representatives (DPRD) is encouraging the Cianjur Regency Government to establish a task force (Satgas) involving various elements to prevent and handle cases of residents working abroad as illegal migrant workers. DPRD West Java Commission IV member Abdul Karim stated that the departure of residents to various countries through non-procedural routes remains high, including from Cianjur. He urged the local government to form a task force involving village and sub-district officials down to neighbourhood heads to suppress such departures. “We fully support the formation of a migrant worker protection task force in Cianjur. In addition to conducting supervision and increasing socialisation regarding procedures for working abroad, we are also ready to be involved,” he said. He hopes that in the future, there will be no more cases of migrant workers facing problems after arriving in their destination countries because they have been given insight and education beforehand. He cited the case of Ai Juariah, a migrant worker from Karangwangi Village, Ciranjang District, as a reminder that many residents are still tempted to work abroad through non-procedural channels. “This must be a shared concern, not only for the task force but also for residents interested in working abroad. They must receive education and a clear picture, and not ignore the risks they will face just because they hope for a large salary,” he said. The Gerindra Party representative urged the public to seek clear information from relevant agencies when intending to work abroad. “Ensure safety and comfort when working abroad. Do not let the intention to improve the economy turn into a disaster because of departing non-procedurally,” he said. Cianjur Regent Mohammad Wahyu Ferdian said the formation of the task force is to provide optimal protection for residents who intend to work abroad, especially those who become victims of fraud through non-procedural processes.
