West Java DPRD Supports Provincial Government Covering Medical Costs of Confinement Victim

The West Java Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) has expressed its support for the provincial government’s move to cover all medical expenses for YTR, a victim of confinement and abuse by Taufik Hidayat in Bandung Regency. The policy is seen as a way to ensure the victim receives medical treatment without financial burden. Buky Wibawa, Chairman of the West Java DPRD, stated that the council hopes the victim’s handling will be carried out swiftly and comprehensively, not only during hospital treatment but also throughout the recovery phase after being declared healed. ‘In conclusion, we want swift handling for the victim, both in terms of medical treatment and post-recovery care,’ Buky said. He also appreciated the commitment of the West Java Governor, who stated that all medical costs would be borne by the government, eliminating the need for public fundraising to finance the victim’s care. ‘I also appreciate the Governor’s direct statement that all medical expenses will be covered by the government,’ he added. Buky noted that the public may still provide assistance as a form of concern for the victim, and such aid would belong entirely to the victim without being used for hospital bills, as all health services are guaranteed by the government. Previously, the West Java Regional Police named Taufik Hidayat as a suspect in the confinement and abuse case, which allegedly lasted for about three years at a boarding house in Cileunyi, Bandung Regency. As a result of the incident, the victim suffered severe injuries affecting her physical condition, including visual impairment, speech difficulties, and an inability to walk normally.
