West Java DPRD Supports Provincial Government Covering Medical Costs of Confinement Victim

The Chairman of the West Java Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD), Buky Wibawa, has expressed support for the West Java Provincial Government’s move to cover all medical expenses for the victim of confinement and abuse, a woman with the initials YTR, in Bandung Regency. Buky stated that the West Java DPRD wants the victim’s handling to be carried out swiftly and thoroughly, including after she is declared recovered from medical treatment. “In conclusion, we want rapid handling of the victim, both in terms of medical treatment and post-recovery care after the victim is declared healed,” Buky said in a statement received in Bandung on Monday (29/6). He also appreciated the commitment of the West Java Governor, who stated that all of the victim’s medical costs would be borne by the government. “I also appreciate the Governor’s step in directly stating that all medical expenses will be covered by the government,” he said. According to Buky, with this guarantee, the public no longer needs to raise donations to finance the victim’s care at the hospital. However, he said the public can still provide assistance as a form of concern and sympathy for the victim. Such assistance, he noted, will become the victim’s personal right and will not be used to pay hospital bills. “If there are members of the public who wish to provide assistance as a form of sympathy, we certainly cannot prohibit it. That assistance becomes the victim’s direct right, for example through an account that has been provided,” he added. He emphasised that all of the victim’s healthcare costs have been covered by the government in accordance with the commitment conveyed by the West Java Governor. Previously, the West Java Regional Police named Taufik Hidayat as a suspect in the case of confinement and abuse against YTR, which allegedly lasted for approximately three years at a boarding house in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency. As a result of the incident, the victim suffered a number of severe injuries affecting her physical condition, including impaired vision, difficulty speaking, and an inability to walk normally.
