West Java DPRD Supports Provincial Government Covering Medical Costs of Confinement Victim
The Chairman of the West Java Regional Council (DPRD), Buky Wibawa, supports the West Java Provincial Government’s move to bear the full medical costs for the victim of kidnapping and abuse, identified by the initials YTR, in Bandung Regency.
Buky stated that the West Java DPRD desires rapid and thorough handling of the victim, including support after she is declared recovered from medical treatment.
“In conclusion, we want swift handling for the victim, both in terms of medical treatment and post-recovery care,” Buky said in a statement received in Bandung on Monday (29/6).
He also expressed appreciation for the commitment of the Governor of West Java, who stated that all of the victim’s medical expenses would be covered by the government.
“I also appreciate the Governor’s step in directly stating that all medical costs will be borne by the government,” he said.
According to Buky, with this guarantee in place, the public no longer needs to organise donations to fund the victim’s hospitalisation. However, he noted that the public may still provide assistance as a form of care and sympathy for the victim. Such aid, he added, would belong to the victim directly and would not be used to pay hospital bills.
“If members of the public wish to provide assistance as a form of sympathy, we certainly cannot prohibit it. That assistance becomes the direct right of the victim, for example, through a provided bank account,” he added.
He emphasised that all of the victim’s healthcare service costs are covered by the government in accordance with the commitment made by the Governor of West Java.
Previously, the West Java Regional Police named Taufik Hidayat as a suspect in the case of the kidnapping and abuse of YTR, which allegedly lasted for approximately three years in a boarding house in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency. As a result of the incident, the victim suffered several severe injuries affecting her physical condition, including impaired vision, difficulty speaking, and an inability to walk normally.
