The West Java DPRD has officially forwarded various aspirations conveyed by students, activists, and community members to the DPR RI. These aspirations stem from a series of public demonstrations held throughout June 2026, highlighting a range of strategic national issues, from economic conditions and legal reform to the protection of human rights.

Buky Wibawa, Chair of the West Java DPRD, stated that the institution has received and channelled the demands emerging from the community. He noted that the aspirations reflect public anxiety over several national policies that have a direct impact on daily life.

‘The main points of the aspirations conveyed cover various strategic and national issues,’ Buky said at the West Java DPRD office on Thursday (25/6/2026).

He explained that during a demonstration on 11 June 2026, students and various community elements submitted at least 11 demands. The majority of these demands relate to the national economic situation, which is perceived to be increasingly squeezing the public.

The demonstrators highlighted a range of issues, including the weakening rupiah exchange rate, rising energy prices, declining public purchasing power, and concerns over national economic sovereignty. They also urged the central government to take concrete steps to maintain economic stability and strengthen protections for vulnerable groups affected by the economic conditions.

Beyond economic matters, the protesters also voiced the importance of improving regulations in the legal and security sectors. They pushed for the government to be more responsive to various legal issues developing in society, while ensuring the protection of civil liberties and citizens’ rights.

‘The rupiah exchange rate crisis and national economic sovereignty, as well as the rise in energy prices and its impact on public purchasing power, are part of the aspirations conveyed,’ Buky stated.

One programme that received particular attention from the students was the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG). The demonstrators requested that the government conduct a thorough evaluation of the programme’s implementation so that its benefits are more targeted, equitable, and able to meet the needs of the community.

The West Java DPRD confirmed that all received aspirations have been forwarded to the DPR RI for consideration in the formulation of national-level policies. The council hopes that the various inputs will be heeded by the central government in formulating policies that are more aligned with the interests of the wider public.
